Dear Bastiaan, I would like to answer your question one by one as follows: Firstly, If your Home Assistant supports Modbus TCP, you can use the SMG-5400 to convert RTU to TCP. The topology is: The sauna <---Modbus RTU ---> SMG-5400 <---Modbus TCP ---> your Home Assistant Secondly, SMG-5400 supports the following serial interfaces: RS232, RS485, and RS422. It has 9 pins. However, depending on the serial interface, not all pin are used. In your case, RS485, you only need to connects 3 pins of Sauna to 3 pins of SMG-5400. For more detailed, you can refer to page 9 and 10 of User Manual: https://www.eztcp.com/en/download/pds_files/smg5400en.pdf > Anonymous wrote: > ------------------------------------ > One more question: The sauna has an RS 485 connection with 3 wires. On your module I only see a 9-pin serial connection. How should I connect the 3 wires to the 9 pin input? Are there standard cables for this? Thank you Bastiaan > Bastiaan wrote: > ------------------------------------ > Hi, I am new to Modbus, and want to make sure I understand how it works before I buy the wrong device. I would like to control a sauna with modbus-RTU with my home automation software (Home Assistant). Home Assistant is running on a small computer connected to my network. Home Assistant has Modbus support. Can I use the SMG 5400 to convert RTU to TCP and connect to the sauna from Home Assistant? Or am I missing something in this setup? Thank you for the advice, Bastiaan |
